In today’s industry, actors have very little time with TV & Film material before they are expected to send in a well-crafted self-tape audition.
Gone are the days when an actor might have a couple of weeks with sides and a script to develop their choices. And then have the opportunity to do multiple in-person auditions with casting and other production creatives giving them adjustments and insights during their audition process.
The reality for today’s working actor is often only having 12-24 hours (maybe 2-3 days, a week if they are lucky!) with TV & Film audition material before they need to turn in a self-tape in order to book a job.
The expectation of modern actors is that they can take the information and material they have been given, understand what's happening, make discoveries, make choices, bring their point of view to it, and execute a standout self-tape in a very short amount of time. All without the benefit of time or in-person guidance along the way.
Colleen’s Script Analysis Class is designed for the demands that current working actors face when auditioning for TV & Film. It’s a functional and practical dive into efficiently understanding and preparing audition material so actors can bring their best work to the table on their own, and with quick turnaround times.
What I cover in this workshop:
-
Working on your own. Actors are collaborative artists, but the bulk of the preparation work they do, especially for auditions, is a solo endeavor.

-
How to approach audition material with limited preparation time (Hint: You will ALWAYS have limited prep time for tv & film auditions!)

-
The 4 C's: Comprehension, Curiosity, Context, and Connection

-
Understanding your character’s “present-story” vs. “backstory”

-
Breaking down a scene and what that means to you

-
Your point of view matters
-
The importance of mining the information you've been given to make personal choices. Even when that information is limited
